  1. This is something that happens in most sports but it seems to happen more often in minor league hockey. You release, trade or waiver a player and that player comes back to haunt his former team with either a goal, assist or being the winning goalie. It's happened many, many times over the years with the Force, the FireAntz and now the Marksmen. I was looking at the schedule and saw that the Riverkings come to town this Sat night with Shane Bennett, who could very well win the SPHL Rookie of the Year Award, and Tyler Green, who we traded to the Riverkings getting DiSalvo in return. Bennett is averaging close to a point per game while Green has very a respectable 2.80 GAA. Bennett was having a great rookie season before being traded for reasons which we may never know. I'd say we got the shaft on that trade but we're not privy to what goes on behind the scenes or in the locker room so maybe there's more to it. Who knows.........As for Green, he played three games here towards the end of last season but didn't get much ice with Bonar here. Green did make the most of his three games going 2-1 with a 3.01 GAA,. Once again, I have no idea why we traded Green because he's a good goalie and can play with the best in the league. I know we played at Mississippi earlier this month beating them 3-1 which is great but will either Bennett or Green come here this coming Sat night with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove in the building they formerly called home? It remains to be seen.......
  2. Whiners

I remember a time in Erie when we had the Panthers (ah, the days of Erie vs the VA Lancers and later the Express) when it was announced that it was our team captain's birthday. Our team wasn't very good at the time and going through a rough stretch. The entire place started booing. Yeah! It was funny. Gotta love minor league hockey!!!! He wasn't happy, made a comment in our newspaper and the next game, when it wasn't his birthday, the booing got even louder whenever his name was announced. Bottom line is we love our hockey!!! Rowdy and obnoxious but good clean fun!!!!!
  3. Whiners

To say we don't need 'these people going to the games' is a bit of a stretch. We need everyone going to the games. I'll still come to games. Who cares what people say on here. There are about, depending on seats blocked, 9,700 seats in the Crown Coliseum. The more fans we get, the better the atmosphere. I wouldn't care if 7,000 fans came to the game and booed the team all night because it's 7,000 fans at the game and as long as they're not throwing objects on the ice or using profanity, all is good. Fans buy tickets, tickets generate revenue and revenue ensures franchise sustainability
  4. Whiners

We have a great front office who has done a fantastic job increasing attendance and the atmosphere at the games. As for the on ice product, that needs significant improvement as we all know. Just because we choose to vent, discuss and freely debate, doesn't mean we aren't true fans or are whiners. Even as bad as this team is, I've still gone to two games this season and will go to at least a couple more. Every ticket sold is revenue for the organization and another increase in attendance. We have every right to freely speak how we feel about the team. The key is that people are still talking about the team and going to games. You;re not a true fan when you stop coming to games entirely or totally quit discussing the direction, positive or negative, of the team.
  5. Marksmen win over Dawgs 4-1

Great effort, great results! Repeat this effort, string together a winning streak and good things will happen. Keep playing 60 minutes every game and the results will be productive.
  6. I don't know you're asking something or making a statement but inadvertently leaving a question mark at the end of it.
  7. Thanks for all those things but I already knew about the greatest soldiers in the world and that it's a nice building and good fans. But let's look at the facts here. We finally have a great ownership and front office staff which was lacking until this season. The fans are great too, always have been. As for saying we are whiners, thanks for the kind words. We really appreciate it. As for MacNaught folding the team, where did you see this? Do you have proof of this? It sounds like a rumor or baseless statement with no facts to back it up.
  8. He does keep making roster changes but yet there's one player who is a -17 with a mere 2 points in 26 games and still maintains a spot on the team. I just can't figure that one out but some will say there's more to it than just stats. I get confused over that because this isn't rec league.. if you don't produce, you need to go. It's just that simple. Don't waste a roster spot because someone is a fan favorite. The days of taking up a roster spot for one dimensional players are over. Averaging .08 points per game just doesn't justify keeping someone on the roster. There are too many players available that can provide points and leadership but who really wants to come to this shi* show in Fayetteville. We really haven't given very many reasons for players wanting to come here.
  9. Whoa! She knows her hockey!!! That last sentence almost seems less of an opinion and more of a fact although hard to prove. I agree 100% with you.
  10. Mike Craigen

I agree to a certain extent but instead of getting better, we're getting worse while the rest of the teams are getting better or we're making all of them look better.
  11. Mike Craigen

While I'm all about discipline and holding players acccountable, you've got to adapt your coaching style to today's athletes. For as much as I like John Tortorella and Mike Keenan for their coaching styles, there's a reason they never last more than a couple of seasons in each city. Players nowadays tune out coaches like that. You need someone who can relate to the players, know what makes them tick and hold them accountable all at the same time. Sure, a coach like Esposito can skate them till they puke but at some point, they will tune him out, shut down and just quit giving a damn. If Esposito is such a great coach, why didn't he come to the SPHL sooner than this season or move up to the ECHL?
  12. There really isn't anything positive to say about this team but as long as we have someone to give them a Capri Sun and Little Debby snack cake after each game, win or lose, all is good.
  13. In the 16 season of hockey in the post Fayetteville Force era, there have been four in-season coaching changes. The common denominator in the first three (Ulrich replaced by Wells, Gillam replaced by Bidnar, McCauley replaced by Olausen), was that none of those three made the playoffs. The trend for this team (this being the 4th in-season coaching change) is not a very positive one.....
  14. Where is Patterson?

That's doubtful because I really think this season is now a lost cause.
  15. Where is Patterson?

I know there are still 29 games left but these two against Roanoke could either set the tone for the positive or continue a negative trend. I'd say a two win weekend sets us back on track with some much needed (and overdue) momentum but anything less than at least a win and things will be looking very bleak. Roanoke is starting to come around with Bremner at the helm which means we won't own them like we did last season. It'll be a wild ride for sure.
  16. Where is Patterson?

Being left in for all nine goals probably doesn't help. I don't blame him if he never comes back. Seemed like a good goalie, aside from that one game.
  17. Not only are you guys very fortunate to have Bremner as coach but you're lucky to get decent media coverage. The Roanoke Times does an awesome job covering the Rail Yard Dawgs.
  18. We're still short a goalie unless Spano is coming back down for this weekend's games.
  19. Mike Craigen

Why didn't be return to Watertown this season?
  20. At this point, it almost seems like we're signing whoever just to fill roster spots. We also have issues with the other team scoring more goals than we score on a consistent basis and have a roster spot to fill in net. It's hard not to be negative when we're mired near the bottom of the standings and there really aren't many, if any, positives you can say about our team. Things can only get better because can they really get any worse?
  21. SPHL referees

More officials who have called SPHL games have advanced to higher levels in hockey than any of the players in the SPHL and yes, that is a fact.
  22. Mike Craigen

So Craigen barely did anything in the last 4-5 seasons in Knoxville? They had an above .500 winning % in each season and advanced past the first round of the playoffs three times in his last five seasons including a Playoff Championship (2014-15 season). The Ice Bears were 29-20-7 last season which is a good record.
  23. Ryan Cruthers Steps Down

It was a joke and I was being sarcastic since our team was built off FHL talent. Relax!!!!!
  24. Ryan Cruthers Steps Down

We would take him in Fayetteville but he hasn't played in the FHL yet.
  25. Read my post carefully because I said positive things about the front office.
