  1. Arena football is about as stable as the FHL.
  2. There's only really three teams and it'll come down to the Marksmen and Swampdogs.. I really don't think the Cape Fear Heroess, indoor footnall, really have much of a chance when up against the hockey and baseball teams. I think the voting could be close but my guess is the Marksmen finish in 1st place for Fayetteville's top sports team. As for top venue, I'd say it would go to Fayetteville Motor Speedway!!!!!
  3. I can't speak on behalf of everyone else but I don't think Bes should be welcomed back here. He left here to be closer to his wife and kid but now that he was fired (mutally parting ways is another way of saying fired), he is rumored to be coming back here. While I can respect him wanting to get a job to be closer to his family, the only reason he would come back here is because nothing else is available for a hockey coach that can't win in the playoffs. The decision on who to hire as the next head coach is up to Chuck Norris. I hope he doesn't go with Bes but if he decides to bring him back, there will be a lot of pissed off people. There are so many other better choices out there than Bes. Also, it would be interesting to hear the real reason that him and Pensacola's owner, Greg Harris, decided to 'mutually' part ways. I'd bet it wasn't mutual and there's a lot not being said. Bes opts not to return to coach Marksmen
  4. Since we don't have a coach or director of hockey operations, who came up with the list?
  5. Why is Drobot going to be protected? It's not like any other team is going to pick him up.
  6. It isn't too bad on travel since when most teams travel that far, they tend to play 3-4 games in that area. So yes it's a 16 hr bus ride but if we can get 3-4 games in between the three 'midwest' cities on one trip, then it's not as bad.
  7. Mazzolini, Esposito and Bierchen are all available as head coaching candidates and each one has SPHL experience too.
  8. Bes is coming back which means so is more playoff disappointment,
  9. That's a good question. The only coach we've ever heard for longer than two seasons in Fayetteville was Tommy Stewart. We've also only had two coaches that were here for two full seasons and they were Derek Booth and Jeff Bes. (It's three coaches if you include Todd Gordon, which was the era of the Force and the only reason Gordo didn't come back was because Lynn Nathan folded the team.
  10. Jeff Bes is just not a very good coach come playoff time. He proved that with the Surge, it continued with the FireAntz and now he's proving it with the Ice Flyers. His teams have been to the playoffs five times prior to this season and have won only one round out of six. He's a decent coach in the regular season but come playoff time, don't expect many positive results if he's coaching your team.
  11. That's a good question and I don't know the answer.
  12. I don't know if they'll bring back Bierchen or not. It's going to be interesting to see if they bring him back, spend the $$$ to bring in a proven coach or go with another rookie coach. Things could never be as bad as they were this season.
  13. Brett was one of the best sports reporters Fayetteville has ever had. His coverage of hockey in Fayetteville was outstanding. The Force, and later the FireAntz, were always in headlines for both games and feature articles on the goings on of the team and organization. Once Brett left, the coverage of hockey in Fayetteville has rapidly gone downhill.
  14. Ha-Ha!!!! If there wasn't an SPHL rule that says anyone who has played a game or more in the NHL isn't allowed to play in the SPHL then I:d be all for it,
  15. Interesting fact is that his younger brother is a phenomenal rookie playing right wing tallying 45 points in 75 games so far this season with the Chicago Blackhawks.
  16. How is it Marky's birthday party this Sat night when the team name wasn't changed to the Marksmen until sometime in May of 2017?
  17. It took him a while because he forgot what it was like to write an article after a win since it had been so long. LOL! Seriously though, ACC basketball traditionally gets better coverage, especially this time of year, which is sad because the Marksmen have more of an economic impact in this area than basketball.
  18. Don’t ever make a comment like that on here ever again. He can go start a team in Winston Salem or anywhere for that matter.
  19. Winston Salem would be a great fit but I'm not sure how a Barry Soskin owned team would be very welcome in the SPHL. I think it's worth a try and they'd fit in perfectly with Roanoke and Fayetteville as geographic rivals. I know we used to have a really 'friendly' rivalry with Winston Salem in the past.
  20. But they didn't assemble the worst team in the history of Fayetteville hockey. Sure, they didn't do a very good job of filling seats the last few seasons but we also never had as much trouble winning games. The current ownership group has done a phenomenal job of marketing, coming up with new promotions and generating excitement for hockey once again. Now if they could dramatically improve the on ice product, all will be good to go.
  21. But look at the bright side......With last night's loss, we're one game closer to setting the mark for worst ever winning % in Fayetteville hockey history. Oh wait, that's not something you want to see happen.
