  1. This season will be 50 years since hockey first came to the Valley. Of course, not 50 consecutive. Bob Mcginn mentioned that on the radio a few weeks ago and said they plan on honoring that milestone this year and apparently they have something planned for opening night. I think it would be cool to try and invite some of the players from the past to come in from time to time.
  2. Nice to see that there will be giveaways some nights.
  3. Tyler Gjurich

Well he was suspended by Roanoke and then traded to Evansville. From what I have heard from some people around the Dawgs, he wasn't the best guy in the locker room.
  4. Need to make better use of the video board. Play some movie/tv show skits after a penalty on the opposing team or a fight or something. Usually the same stuff every time. The bud girls are fine, but every game they throw stuff to the same sections, need to move around the whole arena. Need to promote games to the local colleges students(Roanoke College, VT, Ferrum. Hollins U.), some of the best crowds from the Express days were when there was a large group of college kids in the crowd.
  5. Signed D-man Ben Bauer, who was placed on waivers by Columbus last week.
  6. Yeah, unless he has something coming that hasn't been released yet, Moroso and Mueller being waived is a little confusing.
  7. That was ugly

I agree about the speed comments , coach has said all year he wanted to play the speed game. We are always getting out skated and at times out hustled. It's hard to put together offense when the lines are constantly chasing the other team in the defensive zone. By the time we get possession the guys are tired and the only play is to gain the red line and dump it in. Then when we do have a chance early in the shifts, we can't put 2 passes together to put any pressure on. One of the biggest problem I see is we have guys that sometimes look like they are afraid to take a shot. Trying too many passes to set up that perfect play. Sometimes you have to be a little selfish and just drop the hammer.

Again, all part of his game. If he can get guys thinking about him and not the game plan, then he's in their head. Honestly, sometimes our guys have enough problems trying to put a couple good passes together and get into the offensive end. Plus the first time Biernes wanted to go, it really wasn't a good time for Sicard. Macon was up 2-1 and had momentum. You could see him point up to the scoreboard as they were skating off and basically telling him that he wasn't going to try and curb their momentum and give us some, if Biernes had won a fight.

Sicard is what makes minor league hockey great. Every team needs a guy like him. He brings a villainous character for everyone to yell against. What makes him great, at least the 2 games i've seen him play in Roanoke, is that he is actually a good player. He usually is hustling the most during his shifts, he is not just taking up a roster spot and skating around trying to challenge everybody. I think any team would welcome him on their roster. Also, he was signing autographs for kids right after leaving the ice Sunday, seems like a great guy off the ice as well.
  10. Tyler Gjurich

Traded today to Evansville, for a D-man.
  11. The Rail Yard Dawgs have added 2 players from the Federal Hockey League, Forward Taylor Bourne from the Danbury Titans and Defenseman Mitchell Mueller from the Danville Dashers. 12. Losing streak

We need 1 or 2 energy guys. Guys that will go out there rattle the boards, create havoc and, if need be, drop the gloves. For those who went to Express games, we need someone in the mold of Mike Peron, Tootoo or David Silverstone (among others). Just need someone to create some energy, get the crowd into it. We are a very young team and a losing streak is not uncommon, but it just seems they kinda lose some heart when they get down. Need to get some guys in that can change that. Although, at this level, it's hard to find those guys, because they are usually already on other established teams. KInda think having an assistant coach would really help Ftorek, sometimes its hard to get everyone on the same page, when you alone have to try and keep up with everything.
  13. It would be nice to see the Roanoke Times have a weekly Dawgs wrap-up section. With stats, upcoming games, news from around the league. They did it for a few years with the Express and they would usually do one story a week on a player. Also, I haven't seen any or heard any advertisements on the radio or tv. A commercial evey now and then would be nice. At least Greg Roberts Live, tries to have a player or two each week on the show, but they are usually only on there for 10 or 15 mins and 90% of that is Greg Roberts talking constently and giving the player little time to talk.
  14. Mele is out up to 6 weeks with a wrist injury.
  15. Early observation so far, we need someone on defense that can run the power play. Need someone willing to shoot the puck from the point to create rebound chances.
