  2. Didn't they win the CHL championship before moving to the ECHL?
  3. Thought for sure miracle save Holtby was Conn Smythe winner.
  4. Damn, why can't we do this in Knoxville? Take it to the voters!
  5. If not Smallville, how about Metropolis, IL?
  6. Any ideas on finalists for the name? Polls on supposed names?
  7. I'm sure this goes without saying, but since the RiverKings are not going to be in the SPHL next season (unless something miraculous occurs), these forums will be turned off later this Summer. We'll post a hard date at a later time. We certainly hope to see the RiverKings (or whatever they call themselves) back in the league sooner rather than later, and we'll have a spot reserved for them when that time comes. RiverKings fans are welcome to continue using the forums as they like. We will welcome them to whatever team(s) that they would like to support.
  8. For what it's worth, the ECHL no longer refers to itself as the "East Coast Hockey League" but retained the "ECHL" letters for brand recognition/marketing. Same thing with a lot of cable TV channels: MTV no longer means "Music Television" TLC no longer means "The Learning Channel" TNT/TBS no longer use "Turner" in their channel names (He's sold these channels) While the SPHL still has "Southern Professional" in their name, they might as well do the same as ECHL and drop the spelled out name and just run with SPHL for marketing/branding retention. They could seek a new name, but that tends to be frowned upon if your name is recognized already by the general population. Unless you do stupid things...but I'm not going to use WHAtever 2 examples I have in mind. And for what THIS is worth, Palin never made that comment. The person who calls herself a comedian Tina Fey made it during an SNL skit and it's been incorrectly cited to the former Alaskan Governor ever since.
  9. My understanding was that Jeffries took up a new franchise and Cherney was left holding the bag after the SEHL didn't prosper as hoped after their one season. If I am inaccurate, then my bad. Just how I seemed to remember things transpiring because as far as I knew, the SEHL was going to have a year 2 with Knoxville, Fayetteville, Birmingham, and Huntsville, when the SPHL just popped up with Knox/Fay and Huntsville getting a new name/owner, and the Bulls backed out because the WHA-2 group was involved and the Pelham Civic Center were still stinging from the Alabama Slammers debacle. My understanding was that Cherney was essentially shut out of the process and didn't know what'd happened until the new league was announced.

  12. https://www.echl.com/crelin-to-succeed-mckenna-as-echl-commissioner The ECHL announced on Tuesday that the Board of Governors has unanimously approved the appointment of Ryan Crelin to succeed Brian McKenna as Commissioner of the League. The transition will occur during the off-season and Crelin will assume the duties as the Commissioner and Treasurer prior to the 2018-19 Season. Crelin has been with the ECHL since 2005, and has held a variety of roles, most recently Chief Operating Officer, a position he assumed in May 2017.
