  1. I believe there was an interview with a representative from the Pelham government who said something like they were talking to multiple professional leagues at the time and hadn't cemented anything. We all knew the Coast, the A, and the NHL weren't coming. Really only left two options: the obvious fit and the league for which Pelham was a pipe dream.

  3. Greg wanted Rod to stay on for this past season but he was still under contract to Edmonton and they wanted him doing something, anything for them so he was scouting again. I think there was a brief negotiation after 2016-17 but Edmonton may have been asking for too much.
  4. Not necessarily. The Coast is a hoarder when it comes to trademarks, It's why Pensacola can't be the Ice Pilots, Biloxi couldn't be the Sea Wolves, why QC can't be the Mallards if/when they join, etc. If you've got the money and motivation to work it out with them (ex. IceGators, Cottonmouths, Colorado Eagles and their move to the AHL with the same name). The ECHL likes to do it kinda as a built-in non-compete clause and so they can do this: ECHL Vintage Shop. This could simply be a move so no one else can use the name.
  5. There's also an attempt to launch a renegade Jr. league called the USA Central Hockey League but they've been radio silent for close to two months. This could be a way to keep them from using just the CHL name as some of the faces behind the USACHL were behind the C1HL that failed to launch twice.
  6. Am I reading too much into that quote? That seems like deliberate phrasing to say "a league change is possible" without actually saying it.
  7. Someone doesn't like research or factual accuracy. As it stands, Louisiana currently has two Jr. teams with the Mudbugs of the NAHL and the Louisiana Drillers of the NA3HL.
  8. That's not even apples and oranges. That's apples and aluminum foil. And show me a coach in this league who has coached more than a handful of games in this league (essentially not the midseason replacements) who hasn't done that. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Bremner and Espo have done it already. I may not be with the team anymore but I know what happened in that instance and it's a little more complicated than it sounds. It honestly was a simple mistake. For those firmly on the "Bes pays his players under the table" train, I'd like to point out that Bes took over in Biloxi when Tim Kerr wouldn't pay players under the table and let Walby go. That was a huge factor in why the Surge were in so much debt.
  9. I'd really like to see this evidence. I know for a fact that Pensacola doesn't, or at least didn't, pay their players under the table. Then again, I'm sure a Fayetteville fan knows more about Pensacola than a former member of the Pensacola front office.
  10. As established it was a simple mistake. I agree rules need to be followed but I guarantee that Trudel has skated unsigned players. In fact, I know of one player I can say with absolute certainty that Trudel skated while unsigned last season. It happened in Pensacola. It's like paying players in college football. Everyone has done it and if you think your team hasn't, you're delusional.
  11. It has nothing to do with Kalisz or Hertz. Y'all can put "two and two" together all you want but it had to do with an unsigned player practicing with the team in Peoria. A common practice but Trudel has a reputation and history of narcing on people. With the league's new crackdown on that, a simple mistake mandated a 5-game suspension (the minimum punishment). But I guess y'all wanna keep the tin foil hats on.
  12. You must not pay attention to most the offseason trades in the SPHL. It happens every year. A guy's rights get traded, then he never plays for the new team. A prime example is a guy who is now back in Fayetteville: Kalisz.
  13. That's the same logo the UHL was using when they switched to the IHL name.
  14. Rosters at this point are far from set. Don't put too much stock into what is and isn't announced.
  15. That I can not answer. Sometimes their system does that when entering future teams onto a player's profile. Below is the tweet they cite as a source and when you hover over the info icon, it says "For 18/19"
  16. This is for 2018-19. I'm not sure what Frenchie is doing this season but as of right now, his commitment to U of Moncton is for next season. Regarding the use of the word, "veteran": Bes doesn't write these releases. The guy who does is probably used to the NHL definition of "veteran" being someone who's experienced.
  17. I'm sure the FHL loves their only southern team saying, "we're just doing this to get an SPHL team." lol
  18. Tallahassee - no suitable arena due to lack of available dates Mobile - not suitable arena NOLA - no suitable arena due to issues at other buildings and the Bensons' lack of willingness to share the Smoothie King Center Baton Rouge - honestly don't know enough about the current state of affairs there
  19. Lol, that's not the interior under construction. Right now the Gardens are used mostly as a large storage unit. I'd love for it to happen (and it will if I hit the Power Ball) but it is definitely not happening right now.
  20. And this is precisely why you don't make major announcements on a Friday unless you intentionally want it lost in the weekend news cycle.
  21. If true, I'll apologize for my inaccuracy but I trust my source.
  22. After writhing around on the ice in the Hangar and having them call for a stretcher when all he had was an ankle sprain, Tateson will never be signed by the Ice Flyers. I'd be willing to put money on it.
  23. Standard practice. Release the names over time to keep the team in the news.
  24. Truth be told, when I read the title that was the first name that popped into my head.
  25. He most definitely would have and did give the team a heads up. It wasn't necessarily a better job he left for. It was Edmonton wanting him to fulfill the second year of his contract he has with them.
