  1. Every time I want to use the flash on my phone or camera, I've always thought "Man, if they'd only turn this into a team logo with some random verbage around it..."
  2. I could not agree more. He looked like a different player. Well said!
  3. I understand the concern and am right along beside you, but I will point out that we're just over 1/4 way through our first season, and unless I read this wrong somewhere; 8 out of the 10 teams make the playoffs in the SPHL. Just sayin', you don't have to be anything really special to make the show. Just gotta get it figured out within the next month or two
  4. Let's make this happen ASAP
  5. I'm still not crazy about Ftorek, personally. He just seems to show no emotion whatsoever and the proverbial troops rarely ever seem to be rallied. If I were Anderson or de Melo, I'd be yelling too. They're getting pelted with 40 shots a game. Every game. And the defense doesn't really seem to be showing signs of improvement, and has no collective speed.
  6. +1, my wife calls him Super Trooper because of his 'stache, but he worries me when he has the puck in the defensive zone. Susceptible to turning it over when the other team is forechecking.
  7. Initially, I didn't think so; but seeing how the team has regressed even more in his absence, I guess it couldn't hurt. He turns the puck over alot, and hopefully has/will learn(ed) how to effectively breakout. He does play the game with passion, you can clearly see that. And 3 periods of passion would definitely be a welcome change at this point. Sometimes it looks like Melkert is the only guy out there who gets angry when the team is playing bad. He's become my favorite Dawg at the moment.
  8. Now that's some good in-depth info right there. Something I read on the internet was correct for a change!! \o/
  9. I preferred the 'Silver Knights' personally. I have a friend who lived in Vegas for several years and when we were discussing potential names, he told me Nevada was known as 'The Silver State'. So, of the three that were finalists, I thought Silver Knights made the most sense. Of course, you can't go solely on that, because the 'New Jersey Garden Devils' would sound quite a bit less intimidating Also, interested to see what they can do with jerseys. Definitely a unique color scheme, and NHL and NBA teams tend to be far more ambitious when it comes to their jerseys when compared to the NFL where half the league wears some form of red and white; and probably the MLB (I don't watch baseball).
  10. The St. Clair Shores Fighting Saints (and people say RYD is a mouthful) are averaging 425 fans per game. They're an expansion team. That's legitimately a joke. Clearly, someone needs to take a step back and do some research first.
  11. Have we been watching the same Boyle? #4, right? You can tell he has passion for the game, but come on. He is an absolute turnover machine. I've seen enough blind passes in the defensive zone get intercepted right in the slot to safely say I hope Norfolk keeps him, or any other team for that matter. He's okay at best as a D-man on offense, but he makes a TON of mistakes and doesn't even have anywhere near the makeup speed he needs to have considering the number of 2 on 1s for the other team he causes. There's a reason he has the second lowest plus/minus on the team. Easy goals when he's on the ice.
  12. Sorry, I should have posted on this a long time ago. As DD said, the Hotel Roanoke is unsurpassed as far as downtown lodging goes. It can be a bit pricey though, so I included another long-standing and high quality hotel in my list. To be honest though, there are a ton of chain hotels in Roanoke, so take your pick really. Many are within walking or short driving distance from the Berglund Center. Hotel Roanoke (Hotel) 110 Shenandoah Ave NW, Roanoke, VA 24016 (540) 985-5900 In the heart of Downtown Roanoke, in walking distance to all downtown bars and attractions, as well as the Berglund Center Holiday Inn Tanglewood (Hotel) 4468 Starkey Rd, Roanoke, VA 24018 (540) 774-4400 Tanglewood is an area still in the city, but with a bit less of the downtown atmosphere. Very close to Tanglewood Mall and several good restaurants. It's right off Electric Road, which can get you to 81, 581, or 220 in no time. Here's two of my favorite resturaunts: The Great 611 Steak Company (Restaurant) 3830 Franklin Rd SW, Roanoke, VA 24014 (540) 989-4675 A great restaurant with a true Roanoke atmosphere, located right near Tanglewood Mall and just off 220 and Electric Road. The theme of the restaurant is Roanoke's rail history, with an emphasis on the 611 engine. If I could suggest someone visiting to go to one place to eat, this would be it. Prices are very reasonable, too. Martin's Downtown Bar & Grill (Restaurant) 413 1st St SW, Roanoke, VA 24011 (540) 985-6278 Another very good restaurant, this one located right in the heart of downtown. Free parking can be tricky in downtown before 6PM, so if you can walk, it may help. A good bar atmosphere with good American food, a friendly staff and stays up late enough for a post-game get together. Here's two of the most popular downtown club spots: Corned Beef & Co Inc (Restaurant/Club) 107 S Jefferson St, Roanoke, VA 24011 (540) 342-3354 Corned Beef is very unique in that it is several stories tall, with different club happenings on each level. The food is good, although I've only eaten there a few times. Pop/rap/hip-hop music. Sidewinders (Night Club) 16 Campbell Ave SE, Roanoke, VA 24014 (540) 904-2777 Sidewinders is the other major club scene in Downtown Roanoke, this one focusing on Country and Country/Pop music. Anyone visiting Roanoke for the first time, I'd suggest seeing at least one of these two attractions: Roanoke Star/Mill Mountain Star (Attraction) Prospect Road, Roanoke, VA 24011 (540) 853-2000 The star is a must-see and free attraction, with an incredible view of Roanoke from atop the mountain. As far as I know, it's still free to go up and view. There is a zoo up there as well, although I've never been to it. The park closes at dark. (Side note: I don't know the exact address on Prospect Road, you pretty much just drive up until you get to the top of the mountain :D) Virginia Museum of Transportation (Museum) 303 Norfolk Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24016 (540) 342-5670 (I've never been personally, but everyone always says good things about it) Taubman Museum of Art (Museum) 110 Salem Ave SE, Roanoke, VA 24011 (540) 342-5760 (I've never been personally, this museum opened within the past decade) ADDED!
  13. We're still recovering from the pre-season cage match, unfortunately
  14. Ah ha. The RYD front office just called me back and said they have no idea what I'm talking about either
  15. Hmph. I just tried to call the RYD line and got no answer, so I called the Berglund Center box office and they did not know of a game tonight, but I don't think the person I talked to was actually at the Berglund Center. What the rep did tell me though was that Virginia Tech has a home game tonight (who also plays in the Berglund Center) against Rider. So if this thing is happening tonight, it's either gonna be before Tech plays (like 5:30) or after Tech plays (like 9:30). I'd like to go check it out; I'll post again if I get an update. Good find though!!
