  1. The basics of ticket pricing. Arena's are not exactly on the inexpensive side for leasing for a minor league professional team. Arena's are always more expensive than a minor league baseball stadium, in whereas most rental fees that I have noticed are usually $5,000 per night base or somewhere in the average of 10-15% of gross revenue per event, whichever is greater. Now, also mind you, those fees also grow larger on a per night basis because you, not only pay rental fees, you are also covering inflated staffing fees. Most game day staff are being billed a minimum of 4 hours per night, and while those staffers may make minimum wage, you are definitely paying anywhere from 25-50%, if not more, for that staff. All arenas will manage their own game day staff. Let's crunch the numbers: The average SPHL franchise operating cost ranges from $900,000 a year to about $1.2 million (I have a reliable source on this info), so easy math sake, we'll use a number of $1,050,000 per season. Each team is allotted 28 games at home per season. Basic arithmetic is: 1,050,000 / 28 = $37,500 per game revenue needed to break even during the season. By the way, your home revenue helps to pay for those 28 other pesky games that you have to drive to. At $37,500 per game revenue, you are guaranteed to at least spend about $10-15,000 for your home arena each home game. At Fayetteville's current rate of average attendance of 1,765, we can further the math equation to: 37,500 / 1,765 = 21.24645892351275, or 21.25 to round it to a nice figure. That tells us that Fayetteville's average ticket price has be at least $21.25 to generate the revenue to meet the per game figures to break even on the season. I am sure that a lot of folks would love to see $5 tickets every game, but in reality sense for business, that would seriously bankrupt a team. $5.00 * 1,765 * 28 = $247,100 <-- That is not viable And yes JMC and Mac, anytime I find a chance to break out my math skills, I jump on it!! I'd love to get back into skates and show people how real hockey is played. But, I'd also prefer to be a coach. I actually did send my resume for the Fayetteville coaching job last season.

  6. Nice argument. The key component in Macon barely edging out Birmingham for the top spot in the power rankings is their SOS. Macon has had a tougher schedule thus far than that of Birmingham. Up until Macon and B'ham battled, B'ham's toughest opponent had been Huntsville. With B'ham and Macon splitting a decision in the two times they have met so far, Macon does edge out Birmingham in the rankings. Macon's combined opponents' records are 28-33-7 (.463), whereas Birmingham is 18-33-5 (.366) Does that help explain the Macon-Birmingham situation a bit? By the way, is that the concept for the new Fayetteville stadium?

  9. Peoria, Macon and Birmingham are looking to be forces to reckon with. Birmingham has made easy work of Huntsville early thus far, and I believe are split evenly with Macon. Although, we are still early in the season and it's never over until usually mid-to-late March.

  11. I apologize for no game day thread the Bulls' road game in Macon tonight. I was without power for majority of the day, and by the time power was restored, the game had already started.

  13. Well, lookie at that. Birmingham, in only their sophomore season set an SPHL record.
  14. Jacksonville is out since the ECHL is there. I have the fondest memory of the Huntsville Blast. It was one of the greatest hockey brawls of all-time! I constantly wonder if there is any kind of videographic evidence of that night.
