  9. Geoff, I was an NRA member for years when their primary function was citizen gun rights and safety ...around 2001 I stopped my membership when it became apparent their primary goal was only for gun manufacturer’s needs/wishes ...people need to realize that there is a difference.
  10. I think it's important to note that there's a very real distinction between the likes of Timothy McVeigh, the Unabomber, or even the a**hole who shot up the Unitarian church in Knoxville... and someone like Charles Whitman, the VA Tech shooter, or the guy who shot up Fort Hood. A mass killing is a very different thing than terrorism. A terrorist typically wants "terror" period. Full stop. They want to create fear in the wider population as a motivator for achieving some political or ideological goal. They're not too hung up on method because what matters to them is bodycount. They don't particularly -WANT- to kill people for their own personal gratification (though they may enjoy it)... It's primarily something that helps them achieve an objective. A mass killing may create "terror," but it's not the objective.... at least not in the sense of motivating anyone to do or not do any particular thing. The killer may get off on terrorizing their victims, but they're not trying create a general sense of terror to dissuade people from going to movies or to drive the theater company out of business. Their objective is about -THEIR- personal experience, not the wider reaction to the act... and in those cases, they tend to overwhelmingly choose guns in order to play out that god-like "avenging angel" scenario in which they stand amdist a throng of people and exercise the power of choosing who lives or dies and simply "turning people off" like lightbulbs, as if they were flipping a switch and watching them drop.
