Team Abbreviation?

Recommended Posts

By next season, there will be a need for a 3-letter abbreviation for the Evansville Thunderbolts.

Some teams in the SPHL go by their airport code (FAY, HSV, PIA). Some go by the first 3 letters of their team, town or state (COL, FAY, LOU, MAC/MAY, PEN). And some go by other formats (KNX, MRK).

Peoria actually prefers PIA, though the SPHL site & Pointstreak persist in using PEO. Macon goes by MAC on the SPHL site & Pointstreak and MAY on these Forums. Otherwise, Pointstreak and the Forums are in agreement.

Do Evansvillians have a preferred abbreviation for their town? The airport code is EVV, but maybe there's a better one? (EVN, EVS, EVL, etc.)

Peoria is Peo.

When the Rivermen first joined the league, I saw the discrepancy and asked which was preferred by Peorians. I was told PIA - the airport code. And SLB@PHN still uses PIA. But this thread is about Evansville.

I am in favor of EVV too. That's how everyone I know abbreviates the city name. The good news is that the team's newest official Twitter feed uses EVV:

I expect they smelled nice even at the end of those games.

Only if they played their games in summer.
