Jacksonville IceMen to make hockey debut Oct. 14 at Veterans Memorial Arena

By Clayton Freeman - Florida Times-Union

Stock up on fuel for the Zamboni.

Hockey’s return to Jacksonville comes in five months.

That game will be the first for a professional Jacksonville hockey franchise since April 13, 2008, when the Jacksonville Barracudas lost 4-2 to the Knoxville Ice Bears.

...

The schedule’s announcement is the latest milestone for the IceMen, who took a one-year hiatus from the ice while completing their move from Evansville, Ind. The relocation, announced in February, makes the team Jacksonville’s sixth professional hockey franchise.

The ECHL, which was known as the East Coast Hockey League during the heyday of the Jacksonville Lizard Kings, fielded 27 teams during the 2016-17 season. Along with the Icemen, the Worcester Railers join the league next year, while the Elmira Jackals folded in April.

This Icemen franchise & its lingering owner are very familiar to the T-bolts fans on this Board.  Let's hope there is more stability for the organization in J'ville.

The less Geary has to do with the daily operations the higher the likelihood of success becomes.

Wouldn't that be the T-BOLTs, not the T-BIRDs?

Or maybe to Seattle, WA; Springfield, MA; or Winston-Salem, NC?

Thanks for the offers, folks, but I'm covered.  My father retired from Triple-A, so I have a lifetime subscription of TripTiks.  Too bad he didn't will me his sense of Jog-er-fee.  :dizzy:

Jacksonville IceMen Name Jason Christie Head Coach

hockeyfights.com

Quote

The Jacksonville IceMen announced that they have hired the ECHL’s all-time leader in career coaching wins, Jason Christie, as their Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations. With over a decade of coaching in the ECHL, Christie has posted 547 career wins, and enters the 2017-18 season just one game behind John Marks for the most career games coached in the league with 1,007.

Christie began his pro-level hockey career in 1991 in the ECHL with the Columbus Chill. As a tough, hardworking forward, he accumulated 146 goals and 230 assists and 1,122 penalty minutes in 555 games spread out over the ECHL, American Hockey League and International Hockey League. Christie retired as a player and began his coaching career with the ECHL’s Peoria Rivermen in 1999-2000. He has gone on to coach three other ECHL teams – the Utah Grizzlies, Ontario Reign and Tulsa Oilers.

Sorry but all thats news here is the guy who bled the franchise and it's fan base is taking his act to North Florida and ultimately going to do the same thing. This is a guy who gave the one finger salute to the fans in Evansville after he announced he was moving his franchise to Owensboro KY. Wow it must be global warming as Jacksonville is now a suburb to Owensboro. Get ready for the crap show Jacksonville.......you really deserve better
