The Ice Flyers didn't have to search far in finding a new coach with direct ties to Pensacola's hockey history.

In hiring Jeff Bes, the Ice Flyers landed a former Pensacola Ice Pilots player and a coach who has spent the last six years coaching against the Ice Flyers, including three months ago in the SPHL playoffs when Bes coached the Fayetteville FireAntz.

“Jeff has worked very hard in the coaching ranks and I’ve been very impressed with his development over the years as a head coach in the SPHL,": said Ice Flyers owner Greg Harris in a news release.  We’re looking forward to seeing him behind the bench this fall.”

After the Ice Flyers eliminated the FireAntz -- now the Fayetteville Marksmen -- Bes opted June 10 not to return as their coach. The Fayetteville, North Carolina franchise changed ownership.

Bes moved back to Biloxi where his wife, Emily, works for the University of Southern Mississippi as instructor in the Department of Public Health. The couple have a 2-year-old daughter.
