Ice Flyers continue holiday cheer with ninth win in past 10 games

By Bill Vilona - News Journal

The arena was in a lull and the day-after-Christmas game seemed to have its effect on the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

"A little bit of heavy legs, turkey legs, out there," said Ice Flyers coach Jeff Bes, smiling, afterward.

But that's when veteran Ice Flyers center Josh Cousineau, the guy forever etched in team lore, helped put a jump in everyone's step.

His late, second-period goal broke a scoreless tie, energized the fans, along with his teammates. and it all carried into a 2-0 victory Tuesday night against the Mississippi RIverKings at the Bay Center.

The Ice Flyers win, before a crowd of 3,352, was their ninth win in the past 10 games. The Ice Flyers (16-4-1) now have a six point lead with best record in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

"We're just working so well together, playing really well right now," said Cousineau, whose now-famous goal with one-tenth of a second left lifted the Ice Flyers to their third SPHL President's Cup title in 2016.
