GDT 4/12 7:00PM - Macon Mayhem @ Thunderbolts - Playoffs Game 1

16 posts in this topic

The Macon Mayhem selected to play Evansville with the second pick of the playoff selection. The first game will be Thursday night at the Ford Center with a start time of 7:00PM. Remember this game is FREE to the public. The doors open at 6:00PM for general admission, and 5:45PM for season ticket holders.

The teams faced off seven times this season, and almost every game was close. From EVV perspective:

  • 10/28 - Home 1-4 Loss
  • 11/09 - Away 4-2 Win
  • 11/10 - Away 4-6 Loss
  • 12/08 - Home 4-3 Win (SO)
  • 01/05 - Away 2-3 L (OT)
  • 02/23 - Home 2-3 L (OT)
  • 04/07 - Away 3-2 W (OT)

That's right, the last four games have gone to overtime, and the split was 50/50. 1 road and 1 home win for each side. It should be an exciting series.

The second game will be played in Macon on Saturday 4/14 at 7:35pm. If Evansville needs a third game to upset Macon, it will be played at their place on Sunday at 4:30pm. All times local.

I'll update with any other details as they become available.

I guess VenuWorks figgers they'll make more on overpriced beer than they'll lose in ticket revenues.  :scrooge:

I didn't see the interview, but my understanding was they'd heard weekday attendance for a playoff game is tough for everyone. Since they're not currently getting the attendance they need on regular nights (~2500) they got creative with the 'E is for Everyone' org to open it up.

While Venuworks continues to make some dumb mistakes, I think promotions like this are great ideas. I'm skeptical how many people will be there on a Thursday night with a 7:15 start time, but I'm hoping to be surprised. Bottom line though you don't make any money from an empty seat, and the experience is damaged by a mostly empty building. So let's get as many people as possible, and I'm sure a bunch of them will buy $7.25 domestics.

Game off to a fast, physical start in front of what I expect is the largest crows of the season.

End the period still tied 0-0. Lot of pushing and shoving after the clock ran out. Eventually got it cleared up and no penalties will be called.

52.3 seconds left and Macon scores with their goalie pulled. It's going down to the last second in Evansville.

Heck of an effort by Finn with 42 saves but didn't get the goals to cover him.
