Update On LancerLot

Recommended Posts

@Greg81102: With the timing of your post above, I thought maybe the LancerLot facility re-opening date had been accelerated & RYD could host Game 1 of Round 1 there instead of in Lynchburg.  No such miracle.  :happens:

This week because the PBR minor league tour is in town, so its still a dirt surface.  The lancerlot is being converted back to an ice arena ( It was the primary arena for hockey in roanoke before this happened https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/local/1993/03/16/storm-upstages-game-brings-down-the-house/6e2c804e-6808-4d6c-bc6a-591ec2afc7b1/?utm_term=.db43a2b61e95 ) it was bought by a local group and will serve as a practice rink for the dawgs and also fill a desperate need for ice for the Roanoke youth hockey program.  The Berglund Center will still be used for games and practices for the Dawgs, VT and Youth Hockey but the Lancerlot will help with some scheduling hurdles.

Huge salute to the folks that made this happen, including the Dawgs, who are minority investors. Since the Dawgs came into existence, the number of kids in youth hockey as well as adult hockey has skyrocketed so it gives additional ice availability for all those players.

Another positive thing about the Lancerlot is that it gives the area two ice pads, so the Roanoke Valley will be able to bid on hockey tournaments, which will be a good thing for the economy.

Finally, as you pointed out, it will provide the Dawgs a place to practice whenever there's no ice at the Berglund Center, especially those 3 week in February when the ice comes out for the monster trucks, etc. Presently, the Dawgs either stay on the road the entire week, or have to travel to Liberty to practice, both of which are expensive.

From what I understand, yes.  If the Dawgs beat Peoria they will be back at the Berglund Center for round 2.

And a second “playoff home” for future scheduling conflicts. Because, as we previously hashed out for way too long in a thread, this problem is never going away in the minor leagues.
