While it's not the finality of a deciding game, there remains an urgency as the Pensacola Ice Flyers begin the Southern Professional Hockey League playoffs in a best-of-three series on Thursday night against the Knoxville Ice Bears.

That's because even with home-ice advantage, there's no potential for a return home as the Ice Flyers don't have access to the Pensacola Bay Center for what would be a decisive Game 3. 

"Two years ago, when we won our last championship, we had Game 3 potentially scheduled in Columbus (Georgia)," said Ice Flyers owner Greg Harris, whose team has worked out arrangements at the Pelham (Alabama) Civic Center for a Game 3 on Sunday.  "So it doesn't matter where we play, it is a sheet of ice and we have to go out and win two games.

"We want to go and take care of business on home ice and in Knoxville,then get a couple more days of rest."
