HUNTERSVILLE, NC (April 19, 2018) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) on Thursday announced that Jean-Guy Trudel of the Peoria Rivermen has been selected as the SPHL Coach of the Year in a vote of league coaches, general managers and media representatives. ...

Trudel led the Rivermen to a 38-13-5 record, capturing the William B. Coffey Trophy as regular season champions for the third time in four seasons. Peoria’s 81 points matched the league mark for second-most in a single season, just two off their own record of 83 set two seasons ago. In his five seasons with the Rivermen, Trudel has a 175-73-32 record, ranking him first all-time in winning percentage (0.682) and third in wins. ...

Rivermen coach Jean Guy-Trudel wins SPHL Coach of the Year honors

PEORIA - Jean-Guy Trudel was a prolific scorer during his long pro career as a player.

He turned a hat trick as a coach on Thursday.

The Peoria Rivermen head coach was named SPHL Coach of the Year, the third time in four seasons he captured the honor.

He is already the only coach in league history to repeat as coach of the year, and his career winning percentage of .682 is the all-time best in SPHL history.

“It’s an incredible honor, but no coach wins something like this without having all the pieces in place around him,” Trudel said. “We have great players, great staff, people who are dedicated and carry out the plan. You want to be coach of the year? Have a great staff and players. They can make a coach look pretty good. ..."
