Coach Carr signs 3-year extension

Knoxville, TN (14 June 2018) - Knoxville Ice Bears President and GM, Mike Murray, announced Thursday the organization has signed head coach Jeff Carr to a three-year contract extension.

“Since his hiring last July, Jeff has brought a wealth of professionalism to the organization and created a culture which demands a fast, physical, and entertaining brand of hockey our fans have come to expect,” said Murray. “Most commendable is the quality of players Jeff has recruited to represent our brand, both on the ice and in the Knoxville community. We are very happy to have him make a long-term commitment to the organization and Ice Bears Nation.”

Carr, an Eagle River, Wisconsin native, in his first season with the Ice Bears, led the team to a 30-20-6 record and a semifinal finish in the 2018 President’s Cup playoffs. The Ice Bears finished the season with 11 rookies, all recruited by coach Carr.

“I’m beyond grateful to be able to remain part of the Knoxville Ice Bears organization, led by an incredible ownership group and lifted up by the most supportive booster club and passionate fans in the SPHL,” Carr said of his signing. “The 2018-19 season will stand on three pillars: fierce aggression and combative physicality on the ice, sound operational decisions, and our incredible community. This city and our fans are the crown jewel of the league, and we will give back what we can to those who give so much to our team.”

Good, bad, indifferent?

Not sure.  He proved himself in many ways.  Deserved an extension.  Not sure why three years, though.  Where is he going that they wouldn't have let him out of his contract to go anyway (like moving up to ECHL)?  Three years is a lot of time in this league.  Scott Hillman showed quickly that he was a great coach at this level, so he got this type of treatment back in the day.  I"m not sure Carr showed quite that impressively.  I mean that is like ten or twelve in Fayetteville coaching years.
