Bob McGinn on Greg Roberts

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

In case Dawg fans missed it, Bob McGinn was on Greg Roberts Live on Wednesday.

The complete show is linked below - well worth the listen.  Bob's portion starts at about 40 minutes in.

Some highlights:

  • The McGinn received Greg's "Anchor All Star" Award for the week
  • "This is our year - we WILL contend"
  • Cody Dion is a "moose. He can do it all." He needed a change of scenery and he wanted to come to Roanoke.  He was signed a couple of months ago, but the team kept it under wraps "because we didn't want the rest of the league know what we're doing."
  • Michael Economos is as "tough as nails - will run through a wall for you"
  • Jeff Jones, "all he does is score goals.  A point a game guy."
  • A few more signings coming soon, including some very strong goaltending. "Not saying the SPHL Goalie of the Year is returning, but...."
  • SPHL expansion WILL happen next year - possibility of two teams.  Mentioned Richmond as "very logical," but pointed out that they don't have a rink.  But it doesn't take too long to build a rink if the city wants i to happen.
  • He's never been so excited about a team before. Going to very strong and entertaining.

I was listening on the way home the other day. I have always been impressed with Bob McGinn. He did mention they already have 3 or 4 more signings he's been holding to release as we get closer to the season.

Bob spoke to my wife and I last night at the Red Sox game and we were talking about how excited we were for the season and that we've been season ticket holder since the first season. He said something about season ticket holders getting club 611 passes for the year but we had no idea what he was talking about.

Anyone have any insight?

Club 611 is an area under the concourse where the Dawgs typically entertain their corporate sponsors.  It's sort of a high end lounge with big screen TVs and some nice couches and tables.  I believe every season ticket holder gets passes to visit a couple of times a year, but I'm not 100% sure.

You are exactly right, last season there was an add on you could purchase that gave you admission all season but if you didn't then you got I think 2 passes, there is a rumor that they are going to open it up to sth's all season this year.

Yeah, I have been down there a few times. It's nice! We used to free passes that we got the last few years so I knew about that but Bob made it seem like something different for this year.

That's a good listen even if you aren't a ROA fan.  I love McGinn's enthusiasm.
