The future of SPHL Forums.....

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone I hope you all had a great summer!  I know all of you that are reading this right now are diehard hockey fans and ready for the SPHL season to start! It won't be long!  Now on to some less pleasant business...

I first want everyone to know I started this site back in 2010 to give fans of the SPHL and minor league hockey a place to come and talk with others who have similar interests.  Along the way, I've made contacts and developed relationships with people who I never would have have been able to otherwise.  Hopefully, you have as well.  For the first 5 years, I paid for this place with my own money & with the help of a few people who generously donated to help out.  Then, 3 years ago I made the financial decision that I just couldn't afford to pay for this myself and sought contributions in order to pay for the operation in it's entirety.  I can assure you this was tough for me because I cannot stand to seek donations from people.  I don't like for people to solicit me for anything and I certainly don't want to do it to anyone.  When I realized fan donations weren't going to pan out I tried to go the selling advertising route to raise money but the short story on that is local businesses didn't want to because geographically all us are spread out in different places and national advertisers wouldn't because this site doesn't generate enough traffic. So....here is the hard part.....

We fell short on the donation goal to keep the site going.  We did however raise enough to keep going a little while longer.  So, the site will continue until December 14th, 2018 and at that time SPHL Forums will shut down.  8 years was a great run folks and like I always said before...I appreciate each and every one of you!  Tap of the stick to all of you!

10/6/18 Update

In an effort to try and save the site at the request of several people I will continue to accept donations up until the Dec 14th shut down day.  I have reset the donation tracker to zero on the front of the site and have set the goal amount to what's needed to be raised ($450).  I want to assure anyone who does wish to donate that there is no risk involved!  If the site does shut down due to the amount needed not being able to be raised I will initiate a Paypal refund to you within a few days.  So, if you like the site and want to try to help keep it around feel secure that you're not going to lose your money if it shuts down anyway. We'll give it a shot!

Since this site is able to run to Dec 14th, if we still contribute pass the deadline.....would it run longer?

I've got no problem at least making an attempt at it so this is how I'm going to do it.  I'm going to reset to donation progress meter to 0 and set it to the amount of additional funding needed.  That way it's easier for everyone including me to keep up with it.  I want anyone who does wish to contribute in this new effort to know there will be no risk involved so *IF* in this new effort you contribute and we do not reach the needed amount your money will be refunded to you in its entirety.  If the site closes on Dec14th within a few days your contribution amount will be refunded via paypal.  .I've edited my original post to reflect the details...
