PEORIA — Vicky Marriott loves hockey.

Loved it long ago when coming to Peoria Rivermen games as a kid born Nathaniel Marriott.

Loves it now, while identifying as a woman, and serving as a first-year member of the Southern Professional Hockey League team’s scorekeeping crew.

“Hockey is a tough game for people like me,” said Marriott, 19. “The forces that exist in hockey are intense, and it’s very hard -- very very hard -- to break out of that and find your way. It’s a difficult process.

“But I did it.” ...
