D’Andrea Signs with Ice Flyers for Third Season

Pensacola, Fla. (July 1, 2020) – The Ice Flyers have announced that last season’s assistant captain, Brett D’Andrea, has signed with the team for his third season of professional hockey, all of which have been in Pensacola.

But do not blame captain Alec Hagaman. Do not blame the many other Rivermen players who are going to sign with other SPHL teams for the 2020-21 season.

Pensacola, Fla. (Oct. 28, 2020) – The Pensacola Ice Flyers and head coach Rod Aldoff have announced the return of goaltender Chase Perry for the 2020-21 season that is set to being on Dec. 26.

Perry returns to Pensacola after having a solid rookie season between the pipes. He had a 13-8-7 record with a 2.49 goals against average, and a .904 save percentage.

Pensacola, Fla. (Nov. 12, 2020) – The Ice Flyers have added two more forwards for the 2020-21 season with the signing of Brennan Blaszczak and Taylor Best.

Blaszczak received his first taste of pro hockey with the Ice Flyers back in the spring after signing on Feb. 24. He played six games before the season was cut short a tallied two goals and an assist.

Pensacola, Fla. (Nov. 18, 2020) – The Pensacola Ice Flyers have added another offensive weapon with the signing of Jordan Ernst for the 2020–21 season.

Ernst becomes the third former Peoria Riverman to sign with the Ice Flyers after Peoria was forced to opt out of the upcoming season. The Mokena, Ill. native scored 21 goals and added eight assists in 45 games this past season.

Pensacola, Fla. (Nov. 23, 2020) – The Ice Flyers have announced the addition of point-producing defenseman and All-American, Duggie Lagrone, for the upcoming season.

Lagrone is entering his first pro season in North America as he spent last season overseas in France playing for Chambéry. In 26 games played, he had five goals and 13 assists for 18 points while also adding 61 penalty minutes.

Pensacola, Fla. (Nov. 30, 2020) – The Pensacola Ice Flyers and Head Coach Rod Aldoff have announced the return of forward Eddie Matsushima for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

Matsushima received his first taste of pro hockey with the Ice Flyers after his senior college season in the spring of 2019. In 14 games, he had six goals and seven assists for 13 points.

Ice Flyers welcome return of top playmaker ahead of new season

In 33 career games with the Ice Flyers, forward Eddie Matsushima produced 34 points and consistently earned opportunities at the higher level.

He’s back to start anew.

Matsushima, 26, a Verona, Wisconsin native and former collegiate All-American, became the latest player to re-sign with the Ice Flyers to continue his future in professional hockey. The Ice Flyers are set to begin a shortened season in the Southern Professional Hockey League on Dec. 26.

“Pensacola is where I started my pro career,” said Matsushima, who joined the Ice Flyers in February 2019 and played 14 games, then returned to play for the team in parts of last season before it was halted by the first onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic.

Pensacola, Fla. (Dec. 2, 2020) – The Ice Flyers’ Head Coach Rod Aldoff has further solidified his blue line by adding a pair of steady, veteran defenseman with the return of Cam Bakker and the addition of Jake Hamilton.

Bakker returns to the Ice Flyers after being acquired from the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs in August 2019. In 44 SPHL games, he has put up 17 points and a plus-12 rating.

Megannety finished off his rookie season there and continued with the Stingrays for the next two seasons. He returned to the Ice Flyers this past season, scoring 12 goals and having 14 assists for 26 points in 39 games........

Pensacola, Fla. (Dec. 17, 2020) – The Ice Flyers have added more experience to the roster for the upcoming season with the return of Jake Howie on the blueline and Darren McCormick up front at forward.

Howie joined the Ice Flyers in mid-February of last season and proved to be a steady defenseman putting up some key goals.

Pensacola, Fla. (Dec. 18, 2020) – The Ice Flyers have added another returning player in the signing of goaltender Jake Kupsky for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

Kupsky entered his first season of pro hockey last year when he signed with Pensacola. He played in 14 games and had a record of 8-3-3. He led the SPHL with the lowest goals-against-average of 1.83. He was third among all goaltenders in save-percentage with .933.
